The Metta Retreat Centre, Le Marche, Italy

"Metta" is a word from Pali - the language used 2,500 years ago by The Buddha; it translates as love, kindness, and respect; and these qualities are at the very heart of what we are trying to achieve here at the centre.

Villa Metta is a residential venue for the practice and study of meditation and for martial arts training, for rest and rejuvenation, for activity and learning. It is a centre founded on a solid, fundamental commitment to providing at low cost, access to a place where like-minded people can meet, commune, and immerse themselves in an atmosphere favourable to personal growth and conducive to the enhancement and enrichment of their chosen discipline. Our centre is affordable and accessible to everybody; indeed

Villa Metta is for the benefit of all and is exclusive to none.

We invite teachers, Masters and facilitators to bring their students and work groups to train or study in peaceful surroundings which encourage and promote creativity, learning and relaxation. The centre is perfect for martial arts training camps or your martial arts holiday, yoga holidays, meditative retreats; Indeed for all retreats or group holidays in Le Marche, Italy.

Harlow Jikishin Ju Jitsu Club

Harlow Jikishin Ju Jitsu Club has been established since 1985 and has an excellent reputation for the high quality of the students who train there. The club has produced a number of Dan Grades over the years, many of whom continue to train regularly at Harlow. The club has a very open attitude toward training, with self defence techniques playing a major part in the training scheme. Much attention is paid to the correct application of techniques, and to the various ways that each technique might be applied to different attacks. Many of the techniques are simple, but nevertheless highly effective, and are based upon utilising the way the human body works. This effectively gives the student an advantage, even where the attacker is physically bigger and stronger. Kicks and punches are broken down and analysed to ensure clean, consistent strikes with maximum effect. Special attention is given to the areas of the body where such strikes will be most effective. Throws, locks, chokes, strangles, pressure and nerve point attacks, as well as ground fighting are taught and practiced within a safe, controlled training environment. Although competitions are held on a regular basis, there is no pressure on students to compete.

Ongar Jikishin Ju Jitsu Club

Ongar Jikishin Ju Jitsu Club has been established since 1979 and is a mature club, which has produced many Dan Grades over the years. Many of the Dan Grades, right up to 4th Dan, continue to train regularly at the club. The dojo (training place) is based in large gymnasium, giving lots of room for the mat area, and a large off mat area where Ko-Budo (Weapons) and Empty Hand Kata are practiced. There is also room for sparring. The Dojo is well equipped with a 6' kick bag, a hook and jab bag, and focus pads, kick shields and weapons available for students to train with. The club is has a sociable atmosphere with high grades training with and assisting lower grade students. There is a good, friendly atmosphere at the club, and most of us retire to the bar, for some well earned liquid refreshment, after the lesson where the discussions are about Ju Jitsu and just about anything else you can think of. Sparring and Groundwork are practiced weekly. The dojo is also home to many of the high grade Ju Jitsuka within Jikishin who come along to be taught advanced techniques and Ko-Budo by Professor Terry Parker - 9th Dan. Sensei Parker is often in attendance and takes a great interest in the activities within the club.
